1. Before leaving Khagrachari town
Richhang Waterfall is a named natural destination in Khagrachari District, but approach details, transport prices, trail condition and water level can change. Ask your accommodation, a responsible local operator or the district’s current visitor information which access point is being used. Show the full name and a map result, then ask the driver to confirm the same place.
Do not depart on the strength of an old blog’s exact fare or walking time. Agree whether transport waits, where it waits, how you will return and what happens if the trail is unsuitable.
Choose the latest time you will turn back, even if you have not reached the waterfall. Keep enough daylight for the complete trail and the road journey back.
2. Follow four route stages
- Town to the Alutila/Matiranga road side of the journey: tell the driver you are going to the currently used Richhang access, not simply “a waterfall.”
- Roadside confirmation: stop only at a recognized current access point. Reconfirm the foot route, return path and whether local guidance is advisable that day.
- Trail entry: inspect the first section for mud, runoff, damaged steps or poor visibility before the whole group commits.
- Waterfall area: stay on the established approach, keep away from unsafe edges and do not treat wet rock as a swimming facility.

3. Make a real trail decision

4. Let weather change the plan
Rain may make a waterfall visually stronger while making the approach less safe. A dry spell can reduce flow. Neither condition should be judged from an old photo. Check recent weather and ask about the trail and water on the day. Never step onto fast, opaque or rising water to recreate an image.
Wear closed footwear with dependable grip. Carry water, rain protection, a small first-aid kit and a charged phone, but keep hands free on difficult sections. A walking aid that works on level ground may not suit slippery irregular terrain.
5. Protect the return
Before starting the trail, know whether your vehicle is waiting and at which exact point. If it is not waiting, verify that a return option actually operates where you expect. Send the planned return time to someone you trust. When the group reaches the turn-around time, leave without negotiating for “ten more minutes.”
Transport, any local support and other charges are deliberately not fixed here. Ask the current amount and scope before accepting the service. Keep a cash buffer without displaying large amounts in a crowded place.
6. Save this checklist
